Winter Sewing Classes

We offer youth and adult sewing classes through School for the Arts.  Here's a peek at what's coming up for Winter.  Registration coming soon!

Intro to Sewing Workshop - Scrunchies!  Ages 8+

Would you like to learn how to sew, but don’t know where to start?  This is the class for you!  We will explore the ins and outs of a sewing machine: its functions and features, winding and loading a bobbin, threading the machine, replacing a needle, changing the presser foot, care and maintenance, and how to operate safely.  We’ll then put our skills into practice by learning how to sew straight seams while making scrunchies of different shapes, sizes, and patterns for you and your friends.

Project Materials and Sewing Machines for use are included with registration.

Quilt Cadets - Session 1:  Magotes Totes.  Ages 8+

Welcome to Quilt Cadets!  The program designed for “kids who sew.”  This session we will work on making the “Magotes Totes”, a stylish tote bag with different variations to choose from.  This project is ideal for beginner-level students.  Students will learn sewing machine operation, project planning, pattern reading, cutting safely and accurately, basic bag construction, and applique techniques.  By the end of this multi-week session, students will have gained confidence in their sewing skills, completed a super cool project, and earned badges along the way!

Quilt Cadets - Session 2:  Kid Cave Pillows.  Ages: 8+

Welcome to Session II of Quilt Cadets!  This term you’ll spice up your space with your very own “Kid Cave Pillows.”  These pillow patterns are great for beginner-level students.  During this class, you’ll have an opportunity to complete a few different projects, while adding your own personal touches along the way.  Students will learn sewing machine operation, project planning, pattern reading, cutting safely and accurately, basic quilt block construction, and applique techniques (optional).  By the end of this multi-week session, students will have gained confidence in their sewing skills while finishing a throw pillow and a pillow case (or two), plus earn points towards badges along the way!
