Summer Sewing & Craft Classes

Round Weaving for Kids. Fiber Arts Workshop. Cost $30.
Date: Friday, July 11th. Time: 5:00-7:00 pm. Location: Alyssum Patch Contemporary Quilt Shop. 213 E. Grand River Ave. Howell, MI. 48843.
Weaving in the round is simple enough for an absolute beginner and an enjoyable project for experienced weavers as well. Students will use a variety of fibers to create a woven piece of art that is mounted on a wooden embroidery hoop, ready to put on display.
Ages: Youth 8+. Experience Level: This is a Beginner-friendly class. Seats available: 8.

Little Stitches - Parent & Child Hand Sewing Workshop. Cost: $20
Date: Monday, July 14th. Time: 2:00-3:00 pm. Location: Alyssum Patch Contemporary Quilt Shop. 213 E. Grand River Ave. Howell, MI. 48843.
This is a parent/child class that introduces the basics of hand sewing to young artists. Children will be using a plastic needle with an open-weave fabric. In this session, student will work on stitching out their own fish design.
Ages: Youth 4-9, with a parent/caregiver. Experience Level: This is a Beginner-friendly class. 8 Seats available.

Beginner Embroidery Class: Kiriki Embroidered Dolls. Cost: $45

Join us for a fun and creative beginner embroidery class designed for adults and older youth! In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of hand embroidery while making your very own Kiriki Press embroidered doll. These charming, modern sampler dolls are both adorable and a great way to build stitching skills.
We'll guide you step-by-step through fundamental embroidery techniques, from threading your needle to mastering a variety of stitches featured in the Kiriki doll patterns. No prior experience is necessary—just bring your curiosity and creativity!

Drop Spindle Basics. Cost $45
Date: Sunday, July 20th. Time: 12:00-3:00 pm. Location: Alyssum Patch Contemporary Quilt Shop. 213 E. Grand River Ave. Howell, MI 48843.
This class will teach the basics of turning wool into yarn using a drop spindle. Students will create several yards of plied yarn, and will leave with their own wooden spindle to keep. Brand new beginners and those with some experience are all welcome. Already have a spindle? Feel free to bring your own.

Instructor Bio - Krista Smith
Krista learned to sew when she was 8 years old; her grandmother bought her a sewing kit, and she was instantly hooked! Her love for creative arts has grown to include weaving, spinning, and dyeing fibers, and she loves sharing her passion for the arts with others. She has a background in youth programming and has been teaching a variety of fiber arts classes for the past few years.
